Jodi’s Magic, Everything Balm - Self Care With B&K

February 10, 2021 2 min read

In the Bird & Kite self care notebook, our founder Jodi has shared her own personal self care routine that includes 4 DIY recipes made from natural and affordable ingredients. In this blog post we’ll share one of her absolute favourite, go-to recipes - Jodi’s Magic, Everything Balm.

Before you start:
  • Make sure you have required all facial care ingredients and have them ready for use.
  • Ensure you have the house to yourself and prepare your space to create a relaxing atmosphere that makes you feel, safe, happy and nurtured. Ideas:  Put some gentle music on, light a scented candle or oil infuser.
  • If your hair is long, arrange your hair in a loose bun using your Bird & Kite scrunchie.
  • Use your Bird & Kite head band to sweep any loose hairs off your face to keep your face open and ready for facial bliss!

Jodi’s Magic, Everything Balm Recipe

No fuss - No nasties - All natural - Earth friendly - Good for the soul.

DIY natural skin care

  • 4 tablespoons of Shea Butter
  • 2 tablespoons of Johoba oil
  • 1 tablespoon Rosehip oil
  • 1 teaspoon of Vitamin E oil
  • 5 to 10 drops of pure, rose essential oil(or lavender oil/essential oil of your choice). Adding essential oil is optional, however, Rose Essential Oil is known to relieve stress, fight anxiety, and relax your body and mind. Plus it smells pretty amazing. We say yes to Rose oil!

  • Gently melt the Shea Butter in a small pan on the stove top. Do not put the pan directly on the heat. Hover the pan over the heat to melt slowly without cooking the butter. You want to preserve the natural healing, skin repairing properties of the butter and oils. For this reason, we do not cook or boil the ingredients. When the oil is liquid, wait a moment to let it cool a little. Then mix together with the rest of the ingredients, pour into a container with lid and let cool in the fridge.
To apply:
  • Dampen your skin with some water using the pads of your fingers before applying the moisturiser. Oils are better absorbed into the skin if the skin is damp when applying.
  • Gently smooth a small dob of the moisturiser across your face and neck. This moisturiser is rich. A little goes a long way so only a small amount is needed.
By now your face will be feeling refreshed, restored, nourished, very soft…and loved! The kind of care you and your skin deserve.
This recipe, plus Jodi’s Gentle Foaming Face Wash, Hydrating Matcha Green Tea Face Mask, Sweet Coconut & Sugar Facial Scrub  can all be found in our self care journal. All recipes are made from natural products that you can find in your pantry or are affordable and easy to obtain. They are kind to your pocket, the planet and your skin making this self care routine the ultimate feel good experience.
